Bettie Serves Up The Velvet Underground

Speaking of some of the rarities in my CD collection:

Bettie Serveert Plays Venus In Furs And Other Velvet Underground Songs by Bettie Serveert
©1998 Brinkman Records

My Rating: ✭✭✭✩
iPod Songs: “Beginning To See The Light”, “Venus In Furs”, “European Son”, and “Rock And Roll”

I had no idea that this album even existed until I found a mint condition copy sitting in a “Used” bin, priced at $8.50. This is a recording of a live show at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, and includes ten songs, all originally recorded by The Velvet Underground. The first three of my iPod Song selections have a definite Shoegaze feel to the music. “Rock And Roll” is a favorite of mine, especially the version on Lou Reed‘s Rock n Roll Animal; not surprisingly, the version on this album, while very good, falls short of reaching those heights.
